Spoorthi Seva Sadan

A child with a slate, a family with a meal, a street with a tulsi plant.

Spoorthi Seva Sadan is a community-based charitable trust working since 2018 for poor and marginalized communities. We support children’s education, run health awareness camps, and teach people to care for the land around them.

Small, local, and close to the people it serves

Spoorthi Seva Sadan began in 2018 with a simple aim: improve the lives of the poor and needy, especially marginalized communities. As a community-based trust, it works through the activities that make the most difference at home – a child who can stay in school, a family that understands its health, a neighbourhood that looks after its surroundings.

When COVID-19 and the lockdown left daily-wage families without food, the trust reached out across the southern states with dry ration kits for people of every caste, creed and religion.

What we do

Three programs, delivered in the neighbourhoods where people live.

Education aid

Children from low-income families should not lose a year of learning because of money.

  • Books, slates and stationery – pens, pencils, rulers
  • Payment of school fees for children in need
  • Support for around 50 children after schools reopened post-lockdown

Health awareness camps

Prevention and education, so people can make informed decisions about their own health.

  • Talks on HIV awareness and immunization
  • Understanding the factors that shape well-being
  • Basic healthcare services at the camps

Environmental awareness

Practical steps to keep surroundings clean and green, and to protect natural resources for the next generation.

  • Community sessions on conservation and sustainable practices
  • Medicinal plants for the home
  • Seeds for kitchen gardens

Health that grows in the backyard

At our health awareness sessions we explain the benefits of medicinal plants and encourage families to grow them at home. Tap a plant to see why we recommend it.

Health awareness session with students

In November 2023, a Telugu newspaper reported on a health education program run by Spoorthi Seva Sadan together with an after-school club in a BC colony. Students took part, and the report notes that health education sessions in rural areas help people understand and address common health problems.
